The vegan Vitamin D3 is sourced from an edible form of lichen that is wild harvested at locations in North America, Asia and Scandinavia. This lichen that has been used in foods for centuries (and continues to be used today).
The lichen is collected and washed at source, and then put through a multi-step process of purification, extraction and concentration. Only water and alcohol is used to extract the Vitamin D3, whereas the alcohol is removed in a final production step.
Special care is applied during the whole extraction process to retain optimum stability of the Vitamin D3. In a special developed system the Vitamin D3 is extracted in a totally light, heat and moisture controlled environment.
This is done at the site where the sustainably grown lichen is obtained, to ensure optimum freshness. The lichen used is classified as a food ingredient with a long history of safety. Every batch is carefully tested to measure the exact level of Vitamin D3.

How much vitamin D3 should you take daily?
- Persons who get a lot of sun:
Those who expose their body to the sun three times a week do not need to supplement with additional vitamin D during that time. As soon as the exposure to the sun is reduced, a daily intake of 1,000 IU of vitamin D is recommended. During the winter months, a daily intake of 5,000 IU is recommended.
- Persons who get very little sun:
Those who rarely expose their skin to the sun, even in summer time, should take 1,000 to 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day. In winter, the daily intake should be raised to 5,000 IU per day.
Note: Since vitamin D 3 and vitamin K 2 regulate the way calcium is being used in the body, those two vitamins should be taken together so the calcium is transported into the bones instead of forming plaques in the arteries.
