About the Expert

Prof. Dr. med. Volker Busch was born in Neuwied in 1971, where he graduated from secondary school in 1991 and trained as a paramedic. From 1993 to 1999, Busch studied human medicine at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. He completed his third state examination at the University of Regensburg in 2000, followed by obtaining his licence to practise medicine in 2001. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. med. Volker Busch worked as a junior doctor at the University Hospital of Regensburg and completed his doctorate in the field of sleep medicine; his dissertation, “Sleep Disorders and Personality”, was published in 2002. Busch successfully passed his specialist examination in neurology in 2007. Since 2012, he has also been a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy, and since 2020, he has held the title of professor.

The neurologist now leads the “Psychosocial Stress and Pain” research group at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Regensburg, where he also provides psychotherapy. Through various training and further education courses, the neuroscientist has earned additional medical qualifications in nutritional medicine, pain psychotherapy, sports medicine, and naturopathy.
