Prof. Dr. Elmar Wienecke (August 22, 1960, Anröchte, Germany) is a German sports scientist, university lecturer, and speaker who is considered a leading expert in the field of micronutrient diagnostics and therapy.
His athletic career began as an ambitious soccer player before injuries forced him to switch to the coaching bench. In 1990, at the age of 29, he became head coach of the second division team 1. FC Schweinfurt 05, making him the youngest coach in German professional soccer. After further stints in Gütersloh and Lippstadt, he increasingly shifted his focus to science and preventive medicine.
Wienecke studied and earned his doctorate at the German Sport University Cologne in the Department of Sports Medicine/Cardiology, supervised by Prof. Wildor Hollmann and Prof. Liesen. Today, he teaches as a professor at the University of Applied Sciences for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (FHM) in Bielefeld, where he is the scientific director of the master's program “Micronutrient Therapy and Regulatory Medicine.”
In 1994, he founded SALUTO, a health consulting and research company that has focused exclusively on micronutrient diagnostics since 2024. In addition, he established the Foundation for Micronutrients – Prevention, Health, Quality of Life in 2013.
With more than 60,000 people examined, numerous publications, and lectures at international trainer and medical conferences, he is considered the “micronutrient pope.” His books such as Performance Explosion in Sports (2010), Top Performance in Business and Sport (2014), and The Power of Micronutrients (2021) combine science with practical application for athletes, medical professionals, and businesses.
He has received numerous awards for his research, including the Innovation Award from the Foundation for Health and the Environment (2017) and the QS24 Health Television Award (2022). In addition to his teaching and research activities, he is also vice-chairman of the Westphalia association group in the German Football Coaches Association (BDFL).
