Dr. Bernd L. Fiebich is Head of the Research Group Neuroimmunology and Neurochemistry at the Laboratory of Translational Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Hospital Freiburg.
He studied Biology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, specializing in genetics, developmental biology, and cell biology. His diploma work focused on paternal mutants of Caenorhabditis elegans, followed by his Ph.D. at the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, Gödecke/Parke-Davies AG, where he investigated the expression of PKC isoforms and VEGF in baculovirus-infected cells.
Since 1996, Dr. Fiebich has led the Neurochemistry Research Group at University Hospital Freiburg. His research centers on neuroinflammation in psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, with expertise spanning molecular, biochemical, and cellular neurobiology. He has made significant contributions in the study of microglia, CNS signaling pathways, the arachidonic acid cascade, neurotoxins, and natural products.
A pioneer in the exploration of phytomedicines, Dr. Fiebich has established cellular models of pain and inflammation and guided numerous projects on drug and extract development, particularly focusing on the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of natural products such as Harpagophytum. His broader research interests also include G-protein coupled receptors, microRNAs, neuropeptides, environmental toxins, purinoreceptors, and nutrition in healthy aging.
Dr. Fiebich is a member of several leading scientific organizations, including the Neurowissenschaftliche Gesellschaft, Immunologische Gesellschaft (Arbeitskreis Neuroimmunoendocrinologie), GEBIN, the Neuroinflammation Working Group (USA), and the International Society of Neurochemistry (ISN).
With more than 170 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 53, he is internationally recognized as a leading scientist in neuroinflammation, immunology, and inflammatory diseases.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a prominent medicinal plant used in Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine in India. Also known as Indian ginseng, sleeping berry, or winter cherry, Ashwagandha belongs to the nightshade family (Solanaceae).
Spirulina is a 'superfood' and the most nutritious and concentrated whole food that is currently known. The algae has a lively history and a fascinating biological and ecological niche in the flora.
Tryptophan or L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that works like a natural mood enhancer, since it helps the body produce certain hormones in a natural way. Tryptophan-rich foods or tryptophan supplements naturally calm, promote restful, healthy sleep and reduce anxiety and depression.
With OPC, nature is giving us a vital substance that can positively influence our health, vitality and even our appearance. That is why more and more doctors and nutritionists are recommending taking OPC grape seed extract to stay young, beautiful and healthy. Parts of the plant of the Moringa tree, which is particularly widespread in South Asia and Africa, have been used as food and medicine for thousands of years. The high content of nutrients and a proven antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect make Moringa an important part of the diet and naturopathic treatment of diseases in Asia, Latin America and Africa. In recent years, Moringa has become increasingly popular as a healthy 'superfood' in Europe.
Maca is the traditional medicinal plant of the South American indigenous people. Even today, the plant, which defies all harsh weather conditions in the Andes is used, among other things, to increase fertility and as an aphrodisiac. Maca is also becoming increasingly popular in Europe and is considered a real superfood due to its versatile spectrum of action and valuable ingredients.
Ginseng is one of the best known and most popular medicinal plants in Asia and is also becoming increasingly important in Europe. The versatile effects of the root are increasingly becoming the focus of scientific and medical research. Ginseng is traditionally used to treat menopausal symptoms, memory problems, and erectile dysfunction.
