Studies have shown that vitamin K2 is just as important as calcium and vitamin D3 for building and maintaining normal, strong bones. Vitamin D3 promotes the formation of osteocalcin, while vitamin K2 activates osteocalcin, which is responsible for storing calcium in the bones.

The optimal dosage of vitamin K2

Prof. Vermeer from Maastricht University recommends that people over 50 take vitamin K2 in a dosage of 100 to 200 µg per day. The higher dosage of 200 µg is particularly recommended for individuals who want to make sure that all matrix Gla proteins (MGP) in the body are activated.

For healthy individuals under the age of 50, a daily intake of 50 µg should be sufficient to maintain an adequate supply of vitamin K2. If you are also taking vitamin D daily, it is recommended to consume at least 100 µg of vitamin K2 per day, although 200 µg of vitamin K2 would be even more beneficial.
