Vitamin B12 Synergy contains the two bioactive forms of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, which become active in the body without conversion.
They also contain hydroxocobalamin, which binds to transport molecules in the body and is a depot form of B12. It can be converted into the two active B12 forms methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin if required.
1. Methylcobalamin
This natural, active coenzyme form of vitamin B12 acts primarily in the cell plasma, the brain and the nervous system. Methylcobalamin fulfills important tasks for the normal function of the nervous system and proper cell division.
Methylcobalamin is also required for the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. Methionine is a precursor of S-adenosylmethionine (also known as SAM or SAMe). A lack of SAMe can lead to mood swings and other psychological symptoms.
2. Adenosylcobalamin
This second natural, bioactive form of B12 can also be directly utilized by the body. Adenosylcobalamin is the form of vitamin B12 that is most strongly represented in all tissues and organs (especially in the liver).
Adenosylcobalamin acts directly in the mitochondria, where it is of crucial importance in the citrate cycle for the formation of cell energy.
3. Hydroxocobalamin
This form of vitamin B12 is most commonly found in both our food and blood. Hydroxocobalamin is bound to the body's own transport molecules and has a very good depot function.
If required, this natural precursor is converted into either the bioactive methylcobalamin or the bioactive adenosylcobalamin, thus ensuring a consistent, long-lasting supply of vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 Synergy does not contain cyanocobalamin
Cyanocobalamin is an inactive form of B12, which must first be converted into another form of vitamin B12 in the body in several stages.
As it has poorer bioavailability and cannot be activated in certain people with metabolic disorders, cyanocobalamin is not recommended by experts as a dietary supplement.
