Resveratrol belongs to the group of polyphenols and is a secondary plant substance that is said to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects*.
Studies suggest that resveratrol may have a positive effect on cell renewal, vascular and heart health, and the skin ageing process. [3] [4]
*Health claims regarding plants and plant substances have not yet been conclusively evaluated. However, based on the available studies, the efficacy described here can be sufficiently proven.
Scientific studies indicate that resveratrol, due to its anti-inflammatory effect, can also have a positive influence on a healthy cardiovascular system.
This is based on the fact that resveratrol binds to the regulatory protein KSPR, which can inhibit the formation of inflammatory mediators (inflammation triggers). [5] [6] In addition, preclinical models show that resveratrol can also have a positive effect on lowering systolic blood pressure, especially in people with high blood pressure. [7] [8]
The anti-inflammatory properties of resveratrol can have more than just an impact on cardiovascular health. The process of cell renewal in the human body is also thought to benefit from the antioxidant properties of resveratrol. Based on initial scientific studies, it is now believed that resveratrol can help
- protect cells from oxidative stress,
- positively influence the cell renewal process,
- make cells more resilient overall
and thus slow down the general ageing process [9] [10] and also skin ageing (wrinkle formation) [11].
Our brain is also made up of cells. It is therefore reasonable to conclude that the anti-inflammatory and cell-protecting effect of resveratrol can also help maintain mental performance. This theory has already been proven by various studies.
Among other things, a placebo-controlled study conducted on postmenopausal women showed a significant effect on their cerebral blood flow (in the brain). Women who supplemented with resveratrol performed better on cognitive tests than those who were given the placebo. [12]
A study with young people yielded similar results. Here, too, cerebral blood flow was increased by taking resveratrol, which also led to improved cognitive function, a better mood and improved sleep quality. [13]
Initial clinical trials and studies have also shown that resveratrol has a positive effect on fat burning [14] and a positive effect on the treatment of metabolic syndrome*, albeit to a small but detectable extent. [15] Resveratrol can therefore also support healthy weight loss. [16]
