Manuka honey is farmed and harvested in the rural unpolluted pastures of New Zealand. The indigenous Maori population recognises the unique activity of Manuka Honey and has been using it for centuries. Not only did they value it as part of their diet, they also knew about its antibacterial and antiseptic power for internal and external treatment of
wounds and ailments.
The South Sea myrtle occurs only in the remote, untouched mountain regions of New
Zealand. Busy bees collect nectar from their flowers, which contains a substance called dihydroxyacetone. When the nectar has been processed into honey - the famous Manuka honey - in the beehive, methylglyoxal, also known as MGO, is created from dihydroxyacetone, to which the effects known to the indigenous people are ascribed.
The big advantage of Manuka Honey is its high content of the sugar breakdown product methylglyoxal - in short MGO. The higher the MGO content, the greater its health benefits. Manuka Honey therefore differs significantly from conventional honey which does not contain this special substance.

Which MGO content is the most effective?
The higher the MGO content of Manuka honey, the more of the active ingredient methylglyoxal it contains and the greater its effect. The highest quality Manuka honeys have a content of MGO 400+ and higher and are best suited for problems of the gastrointestinal tract or the urinary tract.
But even a Manuka honey with MGO 100+ already contains an effective amount of methyglyoxal, but in a weakened form. Manuka honeys with an MGO value of 100+ and 200+ are good for the prevention and treatment of colds or for external wound treatment.
The health benefits of Manuka Honey
Manuka honey has antiseptic, antibacterial and antioxidant properties due to its natural ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO). It is not only good for colds, but has many uses.
Externally, Manuka honey can be used for skin infections and to accelerate wound healing. It has also been shown to have a positive effect on ailments of the mouth, throat, nose, urinary tract and gastrointestinal tract.
The effect of Manuka Honey has been investigated in many independent studies. It is particularly suitable for:

Manuka Honey Uses
- For ailments of the respiratory tract and mouth, oesophagus and gastrointestinal tract: Take one teaspoon of Manuka Honey and leave it in the mouth and throat for as long as possible so that it melts and spreads well. By slowly moving down into the gastrointestinal tract, it can spread well over the mucous membranes.
The honey can also be stirred into a liquid and consumed in small sips, whereby it should also be left in the mouth for a little longer. If necessary, this can be repeated 3-4 times a day. Wait about 30 minutes before eating normal food.
- For small external wounds, burns, athlete's foot and lichen:
Apply a thin layer of Manuka Honey to the affected area, which you have cleaned well beforehand. Then cover the area with a bandage. If the wound is severe, consult a doctor and discuss the use of Manuka Honey.
Independently tested
Pure Gold Manuka Honey is tested by an internationally
accredited New Zealand Government approved laboratory for MGO (dietary
methylglyoxal), the key component that endows Manuka honey with its unique
properties. This honey complies to New Zealand MPI standards which identify
this as genuine Manuka honey.
Authenticity
In the Wairarapa region of New Zealand’s North Island,
which is also known as the ‘Glistening Waters’, the Manuka tree grows in
abundance. Pure Gold Manuka Honey is harvested here and in areas local to Cape
Runaway and Whakatane, in the Bay of Plenty, guaranteeing its Manuka
authenticity. The 3,000 hives we own produce genuine Manuka honey of high-quality.
Once tested, honey is then sent to our own facility
where each jar is packed and checked individually.
Premium Quality
All our hives are managed individually by a team of
beekeepers to ensure the wellbeing of each colony. In addition, each hive has a
GPS locator to ensure full traceability from hive to jar. Manuka honey is
harvested during December and January when the Manuka flower is in bloom.

widely adopted and is considered to be the most precise reflection of the
activity of Manuka honey.
