Menopause is the period of hormonal change that usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 55 – in some cases even earlier.
In women, the blood levels of progesterone and oestrogen, which regulate the menstrual cycle, decline during menopause. In general, menopause can be divided into several phases.
In premenopause – from around the age of 40 – progesterone levels begin to decline, and the menstrual cycle becomes increasingly irregular. As estrogen levels remain relatively stable, this period is often characterized by what is known as estrogen dominance.
About two to three years before the last regular menstrual period and about one year after is known as the perimenopause. At this stage, both progesterone and estrogen levels drop significantly, triggering typical symptoms associated with menopause.
The time of the last menstrual period is known as menopause.
The postmenopause begins about a year after the last menstrual period. It is considered to have ended when estrogen and progesterone levels have returned to a stable, albeit low, level.
During perimenopause, the body undergoes significant hormonal changes. These unpredictable fluctuations can trigger a variety of physical and emotional symptoms:
- irregular,heavy or light periods
- decreased libido and vaginal dryness
- hot flushes and night sweats
- mood swings, anxiety and brain fog
- sleep problems and fatigue
- weight changes and digestive issues
- skin and hair changes
- decreasing bone density
- etc.
Since this phase of life is often accompanied by stress, aging processes, and changes in lifestyle and diet, nutrient needs also shift – often gradually and without obvious signs.
However, an inadequate supply of specific vitamins and minerals may exacerbate perimenopausal symptoms In turn, symptoms such as changes in appetite or digestive problems can impair the absorption and utilization of nutrients.
To break this vicious cycle, taking targeted food supplements may be beneficial when needed.
PeriVital Pro® offers women in the perimenopause proactive nutritional support for greater well-being and quality of life. The formula with 31 nutrients and vital substances is designed to compensate for any nutritional deficiencies that affect 7 key areas related to typical symptoms.
