Niagen® Nicotinamide Riboside

Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is a naturally occurring derivative of vitamin B3 (niacin) and a precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD⁺). NAD⁺ is an essential coenzyme in practically all living cells.

Nicotinamide riboside is considered an independent form of vitamin B3 because it is channelled directly into the NAD⁺ metabolism via specific enzymes (NR kinases).

Niacin in the form of nicotinamide

As the body cannot produce niacin itself and can only store it to a limited extent, it is important that the daily niacin requirement is met through diet or supplements.

Nicotinamide is ideal for this. It is efficiently absorbed after oral intake and quickly fed into the NAD⁺-salvage pathway, which accounts for the majority of new NAD⁺ synthesis in the human body.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a compound that occurs naturally in the cells of the body. NAD exists in two states: oxidised (NAD+) and reduced (NADH).
