On the other hand, it contains important nutrients to support bodily functions indirectly affecting the brain and nervous system: from digestion via the "gut-brain" connection to the gut-brain axis.
Special vital substances
Phosphatidylserine is essential for maintaining healthy cell function and the release of neurotransmitters. Studies suggest that it supports cognitive function in the elderly.
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function with a daily intake of 250 mg. Since DHA is present in many foods, BrainPower ProEliteX supplies 50 mg of DHA per daily dose to support optimal levels.
Choline contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism. Elevated homocysteine levels in the blood can weaken the blood-brain barrier and increase inflammation risk in the neurovascular system.
According to studies, Lactobacillus paracasei (heat-inactivated) strengthens the integrity of the intestinal lining as a postbiotic and can even positively affect communication between the gut and brain – the so-called gut-brain axis.
Lion's Mane (bearded hedgehog) contains a combination of different active ingredients that studies suggest may contribute to brain health and provide support in cases of cognitive impairment.

Centella asiatica contributes to the maintenance of cognitive performance and supports nerve cell health, among others, due to its strong antioxidant properties.
Ginkgo flavoglycosides and terpene lactone are the main active ingredients of ginkgo leaf extract: Ginkgo biloba increases cognitive performance and helps maintain mental well-being.
Spermidine is obtained from wheat germ. The biogenic polyamine plays a role in autophagy, promoting the brain cells’ self-cleaning process and supporting cognitive function.
Trans-resveratrol from Japanese knotweed is a potent antioxidant that helps protect brain cells from ageing caused by oxidative stress.
Astaxanthin is a particularly powerful antioxidant that can cross the blood-brain barrier. It is therefore said to have a protective effect on the brain. Studies also suggest that it supports cognitive function in the elderly.
