What is Lutein?

A large part of the ingested lutein is stored in the eye tissue, especially in the cornea, the macula and in the lenses.

Research shows that a high lutein content can protect the eyes from the damaging UV rays of sunlight. It acts like a filter against short-wave blue light and increases the pigment density of the macula, which is the point of sharpest vision on the retina.

At the same time, the oxidation (rancidity) of these important fatty acids, which are so important for the beauty of the skin, decreased by 55%.

What is the difference between Free Lutein and Lutein Esters?

The patented FloraGLO® Lutein, as it is contained in Lutein Royal, is called 'free lutein'. It is the biologically active molecule.

In contrast, inexpensive lutein ester differs chemically from free lutein and requires an enzymatic conversion in the small intestine so that the lutein it contains can be absorbed into the body.

The rate of conversion from lutein ester to free lutein depends on many factors e.g. a person's state of health, diet and age. Basically, the rate of conversion in the body can't be determined with certainty.

No conversion is necessary for the absorption of Lutein Royal, it is directly and completely absorbed by the body. With Lutein Royal you therefore take in the amount of lutein that is stated on the label. So there is no guesswork.

Is Lutein Royal Safe?

Yes. Lutein Royal has been used in many vitamins and nutritional supplements since the mid-1990s, with no negative indications regarding its safety.

Lutein has been assessed by the JECFA (FAO/WHO Joint Committee on Food Additives), an independent, international body recognized around the world for controlling the safety of food additives. The JECFA set a maximum daily dose of 2 mg lutein per kilogram, which corresponds to around 140 mg lutein per day for a person weighing 70 kg.

Lutein Royal's safety was also assessed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which found that Lutein Royal is safe for a variety of uses in conventional and medical foods.

With an expert panel from the field of food safety, the FDA carried out its own assessment of the GRAS findings (Generally Recognized As Safe), based on data from the areas of toxicology, genotoxicity and human safety.

When is the best time to take lutein capsules?

The best time to take Lutein Royal capsules is during a meal. Lutein is fat-soluble and is therefore better absorbed if it is taken with a small amount of fat.
